Shark Awareness.

Through this Project, my aim is to present that sharks are not threatening creatures through a Sequential Sequence. A Sequential Sequence is an order of snapshot images which tell a narrative to a viewer. It was a challenge knowing the stigma that surrounded sharks, and it was already a challenge knowing that sharks do not present any emotions through facial expressions like humans.

I started off by studying how sharks move, which I then endlessly sketched onto paper until I was comfortable with how they bend, twist and move. It was just a process of trial and error. When I was comfortable with experimenting from varying angles, I started to see if I could possibly manipulate how they feel through exaggerated movement. I presented this by really focusing
on the movement of the smaller aspects, such as the tail or fins.

I did attempt to try and explore other mediums such as pastel, chalk and watercolour, but I felt as if it was a bit too messy for the theme I was attempting to go for. I wanted the art to be clear, so I can communicate and emphasize the movement presenting the shark's emotions. However, I did like how the drastic change of shading contrast on the shark's body, which later influenced the paintings when carried over to Digital Art, using the programme Paint. Sai. Once I was set on the medium and experimented with bringing everything over to Digital Art, I sketched out a variation of draft story boards for the Sequential Sequence, later selecting Storyboard One to be the Final Design.
